Local Area

Pendle is situated in North East Lancashire. It adjoins the Ribble Valley, the North Yorkshire district of Craven and the West Yorkshire districts of Calderdale and the City or Bradford.

Pendle takes name from the ancient anglo saxon name for hill and Pendle Hill itself is the largest hill on the Pennine range. In the 16th century the area was the ancient hunting ground called the Forest of Bowland. Today Boothman Park is nestled within the Forest of Bowland.

The area is closely associated with the Pendle Witches Trials (among the most famous in English history).
